HIKING TRAILS
The Superior Hiking Trail The Superior Hiking Trail is in good summer condition, featuring a profusion of wildflowers: black-eyed susan, fireweed, milk weed, bouncing bets, turtle-heads, and wild asters in full blossom. The state parks' trails are in excellent condition. Rivers & waterfalls along the trails are dramatic photo opportunities. The paved Gitchi Gami trail from Schroeder to Tofte and Tofte to the Onion River is in great condition for biking or walking.
BIKING TRAILS
The trail starting at Britton Peak offers a grassy track through quiet woods for those seeking an off-road ride. The Onion River Road, starting at the Oberg Mountain Trailhead is an easy ride on a fairly flat gravel track. Several loops on Forest Service back roads offer great rides from beginner to expert; stop in the Lutsen Tofte Tourism Association Visitor Center in Tofte for maps & directions. The Gitchi Gami Trail, paved in a 2-mile section and a 5-mile section in the Tofte & Schroeder area is in excellent condition for biking & walking...a good choice when accompanied by children.
